Mercer Island Caf\u00e9 | Saturday, July 11, 12 to 3 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is hard to believe a year has passed. Last summer we opened the doors of our Mercer Island caf\u00e9 at 3051 78th Ave. SE, across from Mercerdale Park. We hoped the neighborhood would welcome us. It did, and then some. You have made the caf\u00e9 part of your mornings and your meetups, your after-the-farmers-market pastries and your weekend brunches. We could not have asked for a better first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we want to celebrate it with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, July 11, from noon to 3 p.m., we\u2019re throwing a party outside the caf\u00e9, and everyone is invited.<\/strong> It happens to land on the same day as the Mercer Island Summer Celebration just across the way, the island\u2019s big one-day festival of live music, arts and crafts, food, kids activities, and an evening fireworks show. So there will be plenty to do all day. Swing by to celebrate with us, then hit the festival. There’s plenty to fill the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what we have planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A free kids cookie decorating table. <\/strong>Sam Stout and Katarina Ducharme from our pastry team will set up out front with our Brown Butter Sugar Shortbread cookies in butterfly and flower shapes. Kids can pull up a chair, pick up a piping bag, and decorate their own. It is free, it is a little messy, and that is part of the fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pet portraits by Dozfy.\u00a0<\/strong>Seattle muralist and pop-up artist Dozfy<\/strong><\/a> will do custom live drawings of your pet in his signature minimal black-and-white style, from a photo on your phone, on a custom Macrina tote we will provide. Limit one pet illustration per bag, one bag per person, while supplies last. Bring a picture of the dog, the cat, the goldfish, whoever rules your house, and walk away with a one-of-a-kind keepsake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A treat for the dog, too. <\/strong>We\u2019re offering a special Dog Bowl and Dog Biscotti Bundle for the day, a sturdy bowl paired with our house-made dog biscotti ($25). As usual, you\u2019re left holding the (tote) bag while they make off with the treats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the caf\u00e9 will be humming, with the full lineup you have come to count on. Crackly-crusted artisan breads. Buttery cornetti. Pastries, seasonal specials, tarts, sandwiches, soups, and a complete menu of espresso drinks. The patio will be open, and that lovely summer light filtering through the caf\u00e9 windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMacrina searched for a Mercer Island location for years before we found this one,\u201d says founder Leslie Mackie, who opened the first Macrina in 1993. \u201cA year in, it feels like home. Sharing our passion for artisan baking with our Eastside friends has been everything we hoped for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we opened, we said we were thrilled to join a neighborhood that had already welcomed us in spirit,\u201d says Scott France, president and part-owner of Macrina. \u201cA year later, that welcome has only grown. We wanted to mark the occasion the best way we know how, by getting everyone together over good food.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re delighted to be on the island, and we\u2019re grateful for a year of your company. Come find us on July 11. Bring the kids, bring the dog, bring a photo for Dozfy, and make a day of it with the Mercer Island Summer Celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
