Ultimately, it was\u00a0Macrina\u2019s\u00a0Greek Olive Loaf that led Diana to our caf\u00e9. A recent transplant to Seattle in 2016, Diana was looking for a job when her boyfriend showed up with a loaf of his new favorite bread\u2014the Greek Olive Loaf. He casually mentioned that he\u2019d noticed a sign saying\u00a0Macrina\u00a0was hiring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Diana and her boyfriend had moved to Seattle from New York City where Diana had worked in independent film production. Out of college, she had considered a career as a teacher, but student teaching had talked her out of that. Her job requirements were only that she didn\u2019t want to be cooped up in an office. \u201cI\u2019m an extrovert,\u201d Diana says. \u201cBeing around people gives me energy. I loved\u00a0Macrina\u2019s\u00a0bread and it seemed like a fun place to work so I interviewed.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Customers and coworkers alike were quickly impressed with her hard work, kindness and spirited personality. When the Aloha caf\u00e9 opened in September 2018, Diana was an instrumental part the opening crew.\u00a0When the tightly knit community of North Capitol Hill\u00a0filtered in to check us out,\u00a0Diana\u2019s\u00a0product knowledge and\u00a0bright, lively personality\u00a0helped introduce\u00a0Macrina\u00a0to everyone.\u00a0\u00a0Everyone who has ever opened a new retail business knows just how challenging it is.\u00a0There\u2019s hardly been a quiet moment since we opened the doors, so strong customer service skills and a good work ethic have been bench tested.\u00a0\u201cWe have so many regulars already,\u201d Diana says. \u201cYou know their favorite pastry before you know their name. Seeing familiar faces in line is definitely a great part of the job.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the General Manager position opened up in June 2019 it was clear Diana had earned the nod. \u201cI was honored to be offered the job,\u201d Diana says. \u201cI worked my way up and feel like they saw something in me. Scott and Leslie are at the Aloha caf\u00e9 frequently and both are very open and supportive. When I\u2019m hiring it helps to be able to say very honestly that the company culture is really good, and there are many opportunities for growth.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
